15-year-old Elise Liu of the Academy’s Junior Music Programme is distinguished by her determination to excel, said her teacher, Mr Choy Lap Tak. “Elise has a pleasant personality; she is self-motivated and very independent”, added Mr Choy.
A talented student in singing, the piano and percussion instruments, Elise Liu has been in a member of the Academy’s Junior Choir from 2003 to 2009, at the same time playing the piano, the xylophone and marimba. Juggling between studies and music, the secondary student from Diocesan Girls’ School has been many times awarded in local and international competitions. In recent years, she has focused on playing the marimba, and winning two awards at international competitions – First prize in the 2013 Italy Percussion Competition – Marimba Category A (up to age 16), and the Special Young Talent Award in the 2012 International Marimba Competition in Salzburg.
