Biography
graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2005 and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons), major in theatre and film design. Since then, Yatkwan have been working as a freelance theatre designer for different major Hong Kong theatre companies such as Hong Kong Dance Company, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Utopia Cantonese Opera Workshop etc.
Other than theatre design, in 2009 Yatkwan hired by "Ankh Concepts" as the chief designer of its boutique hotel design project of 1881 Hullet House, transforming a famous heritage site of Hong Kong into a boutique hotel. In the same year, Yatkwan and his friends created their own experimental theatre, which aims at exploring and experimenting various visual effects and techniques in story-telling. In 2012, he became an part-time teacher at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and in 2014 he was an Artist-in-Resident at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
To further develop his career as a scenographer, Yatkwan attended a Master course in Theatre Design at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2010. His recent production included “Merrily we roll along”, “The Sea” produce by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, “About Bill” produced by Just Grand Partnership and Cole Kitchenn Ltd. And “Three Sisters” by Central School of Speech and Drama, “The Professor”, “Attempts on her life” by Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, “Shuraba” by W Theatre.
In 2015, his design in “Shuraba” earns an Hong Kong Theatre Award nomination for best set design.
