Raymond Mak is an experienced stage sound and audio system professional. He began his career in the field of theatre and entertainment technology in 1981 and has since worked extensively in a wide range of concerts and stage productions. Raymond first joined the Academy in 1988 as Technician at the Venue Technical Department and promoted to the position of Chief Sound Technician within two years. Among Raymond’s major contributions to the Academy included the development and re-designed of the sound systems at the Academy’s venues including the Lyric Theatre and Drama Theatre. Raymond was also invited to be sound system consultant for the local performance venues, such as the Fringe Club. In 2010, he joined the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts as a teaching faculty.
Raymond has gained broad recognition for his professional accomplishments in stage/theatre sound and audio system design, as well as his motto of pursuing continuous improvement and excellence. This earned him invitations from international production companies to provide technical support in renowned musical productions tour in Hong Kong and abroad including the Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserable, Cats the Musical (tour in Hong Kong, Taipei, Beijing), Show Boat (Sydney), Mama Mia, and Miss Saigon. Raymond has also worked with Hong Kong Disneyland as a Technical Director (Entertainment) where he gained experiences in international theme park management.
Raymond is also highly commended as a dedicated and inspiring teacher who receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and his peers. With immense interest and extensive knowledge in applied electronics, Raymond focuses his exploration and research in technological application aspects, which he also brings relevant elements to his teaching. The technology-driven courses he teaches are well received by the students from different majors.
