Wendy Chu, Lecturer (Academic Studies in Dance) received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Ohio State University in 1991 where her focus of study was Labanotation. She studied ballet at the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet headed by Paula Lau in mid 1980s. Chu became a certified Labanotation teacher in 1987 and she has been teaching Labanotation since then. At the HKAPA, Chu teaches Labanotation from elementary to advanced level; Directing Skills; and instructs students to use Life Forms and Poser in Dance Technology; and supervises students in Modern Dance Teaching Practicum. She has reconstructed from Labanotation scores dances by Doris Humphrey: Shakers, New Dance, Two Ecstatic Themes, Soaring, Water Study; Charles Weidman: Flickers; Jose Limon: Missa Brevis; Victoria Uris: Breakers; and Ku ming-shen: Bamboo Grove. She has recently notated a set of basic exercises of Ba Gua. Her other notation includes works by Uris and Hanya Holm. Chu is a member of the International Council of Kinetography Laban. She attended several international conferences of dance notation as well as dance technology. She has been invited by the Hong Kong Education Department to be an adjudicator for the annually School Dance Festival since 1996. Chu is currently a member of the School's Staff Development Fund Committee.
