In its second year of operation, the Centre continued to
profile the commitment of the Academy in arts education
locally and globally through three areas of service:
Community Engagement
,
Professional Development
and
CurriculumDevelopment
. To realise itsmission, the Centre
worked collaboratively internallywithAcademy graduates,
schools, departments and students and externally with
citizens, community partners, cultural institutions, arts
organisations, the Government and sponsors through
innovative collaborations and new projects.
Community Engagement
The Centre launched the
smARTS Journey
(Stimulating
Minds through Arts) programme in October 2008 with
the sponsorship of the Hongkong Bank Foundation. The
project provides an opportunity for students and teachers
to appreciate and be inspired by the arts through a series
of educational activities in dance, drama, music, film and
television, theatre and entertainment arts, and Chinese
traditional theatre presented in a dynamic and interactive
way at the Academy. It aims to develop participants’
learning abilities/experiences, to stimulate their creativity
and to enhance students’ aesthetic development in the
Other LearningExperiences
under the new334 curriculum.
In the 2008/2009 academic year, the project benefited
3,940 students and 197 teachers from 133 schools in 26
performing arts educational activities. TheHongkong Bank
Foundation will continue to sponsor the programme in
the next academic year.
