In another busy and varied year, the School provided
creative and production teams for 16 Academy drama,
opera and dance productions, plus numerous smaller
project-type shows.
This year the School commenced its Fast-track programme
in a series of ‘launches’ during September. A new
facility has been established near the Béthanie campus
to accommodate the increase in student numbers. The
School also launched its Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
programme in September with an intake of students in
Lighting Design, Technical Direction and Arts & Event
Management.
Dean of School, Mr JohnWilliams visited the Royal Scottish
Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow and the Royal
Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff, during Chinese
New Year. While at the Royal Welsh College of Music
& Drama, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding
on behalf of the Academy with Principal Ms Hilary
Boulding. Discussions are underway for the first student
exchanges next year. The Royal Scottish Academy of Music
& Drama accepted an exchange Lighting student under
the Memorandum of Understanding with the Academy.
The Hong Kong Ballet’s production of
The Evolution of
Ballet
, designed by Theatre Design students working with
a number of design faculty won a Hong Kong Dance
Award -- announced on 8 April at Kwai Tsing Theatre.
