Student Achievements
Strong indicators of its success, the School enjoyed a
wealth of student achievements over the year, among
them the following:
Wu Cheng-fang (MFA) was offered a contract with the
Akram Khan Company, while Lin Lin (Ballet) took up
a full-time position with the Singapore Dance Theatre.
Locally, Yang Hao (Contemporary Dance) joined City
Contemporary Dance Company, Lin Zhengyuan (Chinese
Dance) joined Hong Kong Dance Company, while Wong
Woon-ting (Chinese Dance), Lam Oi-ki, Yip Kei-yan and
Liang Ye (all Ballet) took up full-time contracts with
Hong Kong Disneyland.
ChungMan-in (Ballet) attended the Bartholin International
Summer Dance Seminar in June/July at the Royal Theatre
Copenhagen on a full scholarship awarded by the
organisers,while SaekoHayashi (Ballet) won a Silver Medal
in the Female Senior Division, and Yu Hoi-ling (Ballet)
was awarded a Silver Medal in the Open Choreography
Section, of Hong Kong Ballet Group Young Ballet Stars
Awards in August.
Combining dance and film, Hui Mo-yiu (Contemporary
Dance) won two awards at the 2008 Jumping Frames
Dance Video International Competition – the Jumping
Frames 2008 Dance Video Award, and the Special Award
for Hong Kong Dance Filmmakers – for her film
Play &
Control
. The film was subsequently chosen for screening
at the Dance and Media Japan International Dance Video
Film Festival.
Cho Tak-po (Contemporary Dance) joined New Zealand
company Raewyn Hill and Dancers for an extended
internship funded by the Adrienne, Lady Stewart
Scholarship for the development of Hill’s
Finders Keepers
,
premiered at the Festival of Colour in Wanaka New
Zealand in April.
Performing as the Jasmin Dance Company, Chinese Dance
students Ho Ka-lo, Ho Ho-fei, Siu Sin-hung, Ngan Ka-wun
and Wong Kuk-li won the Gold Award for Performance
at the Bauhinia Cup Hong Kong Dance Championships
for their performance of
The End of Innocence
.
School of Dance students were also recipients of a
number of prestigious scholarship and fellowship
awards. Chan Hiu-ling (Chinese Dance) was awarded
a Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship. Tsui Yik-chit
(Ballet), Shum Chi-yee (Chinese Dance), and Lo Suet-
fan (Contemporary Dance) were recipients of Disney
Scholarships which were presented at a ceremony at
Hong Kong Disneyland in March. Tsui Yik-chit was also
awarded a Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Scholarship
for outstanding contribution to School, while Lo Suet-
fan was awarded the HKAUW Thomas H C Cheung
Undergraduate Scholarship for 2008/2009.
Zhao Na and Mak Pui-hang (both Chinese Dance)
were recipients of highly competitive Hong Kong SAR
Government Scholarships; Zhang Xiaoqing (Ballet) and
He Yongning (Chinese Dance) were awarded Sun Hung
Kai Properties - Kwoks’ Foundation Scholarships; and Ma
Sze-nga (Contemporary Dance) was awarded the Ohel
Leah Synagogue Charity Undergraduate Scholarship in
Dance for 2008/2009.
