No one knows what the future holds for us, yet, as long as we strive for our own future, there is a great one ahead.
A small seed has grown to be.....
Without thinking about being a professional dancer, I started my professional dance training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2010 merely because of the passion for dancing. In 2015, I am graduated with much more than I expected with exceptional gratefulness for participating in ImPulsTanz and Biblioteca de Corpo. This project further shapes me to be a professional dance artist who should be always ready to work and perform.
Intensive rehearsals at São Paulo start from 19th August until 4th September. Within these period of time, I saw myself being enriched day by day. Though the routine of each day was the same: warm up class and rehearsal, each day was an opportunity for me to explore and improve. I met some of the former Biblioteca do Corpo dancers as they came joining warm up class. It was a chance to learn by observing their movements and quality as well as feeling their energy flow and projection when they danced. Since there was no mirror during class and rehearsal, I had been adapting and finding a way not to dance with starring myself in the mirror as a habit. I felt insecure at the beginning and I had no confidence to dance at all. However, this situation was improved when time passed and I started to get used to it. There was much more freedom for the body to sense the space, energy, dynamic, weight and etc. The most important development was the building of self-esteem and the sense of presence. Once the mental and psychological status is strong, the body has corresponding reaction through the expression of movements. From the rehearsal process, I have progressively recognised myself to be professional and performative.
The performances take place from 5th to 7th and 9th to 12th September, and touring different places in São Paulo. Each performance is a unique conversation with audience, in which I am able to share what I have been working and developing during the past few months. Therefore, I treasure the opportunity to perform as it finalises the entire progression and the stage is always a magical place that creates power and energy to the delivery of the choreography. The touring performances have brought the dance work to different kinds of audience in Brazil: some are dance practitioners but some are of zero contact with dance. Therefore, the reactions of audience are extremely different. From a group of audience who seriously watches and digests the elements of the performance to another group which yells and screams along, the difference of the atmosphere created has developed me a precious performing experience.
This journey has brought me priceless friendship with Brazilian dancers and insight for future. We have been talking and sharing a lot on our dance work and development during the two months. I am even invited by one of them to visit his dance company during the last week in Brazil. I joined company class and stayed to watch rehearsals. A lot inspirations and reflections crash into my mind which motivates me to do my own piece sharing ideas and thoughts in the future.
I planted a seed of passion 5 years ago and the unknown future has made me a dream to dance as a path to share life, exchange experience and value, to evoke and educate and to create hope and dream for others.
No dream is too small. I am looking forward to presenting my new work cooperating with Brazilian in the near future in Hong Kong!
